A handmade German silver and hard rubber Arthur L. Walker prototype single action salmon reel. This spectacular reel has a 4” diameter and a 1 ½” wide spool, with unique “dished” hard rubber face and tail plates. From the letter of provenance provided with this reel, we learn it was designated as a “Prototype-Do Not Sell”, found in a box under the stairs at the Walker estate, sold by Phil Castleman in 1999. This reel with overhanging rim has a sliding grease cap on the rear plate, stamped “A.L.Walker Maker N.Y.” and the on/off click button is on the front plate with eight position adjustment lever on the rear .This right hand wind reel model 100 is a size 4/0, serial number 222, has a double set of roller pillars, one of which spins when used for “rings-up” fishing, and it has nickel silver rims, cross pillars, screws and the retaining screw and counterbalance on the aluminum “S” shaped handle. The foot is full length. There are no cracks, chips or scratches in the hard rubber.
