The H.R.H. Princess Louise presentation salmon fly rod by Forrest of Kelso, 3 piece (2 tips) greenheart and hickory tipped 11’6” ladies size salmon fly rod with brass reel seat, sliding reel fitting, butt cap stamped makers details and block engraved “H.R.H Princess Louise 18th March 1879”, turned lignum vitae butt cap, black silk whippings, agate lined butt and tip rings, inter-mediate snake rings, spigot joints, tapered wooden ferrule stoppers, the rod, originally sold (in a somewhat dilapidated state) through Angling Auctions in the mid 1990’s, the new owner has had the rod professionally restored back to as new condition **H.R.H. Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll 1848-1939, the 6th daughter of H.M. Queen Victoria, has often been referred to by historians as the “Rebel Princess”, following the appointment in 1878 of her husband (John, Marquis of Lorne, heir to the Dukedom of Argyll) to the position of Governor General of Canada the Princess (a lover of field sports) fished extensively on the eastern Canada rivers including the Grand Cascapedia and Restigouche, it is recorded that, in the presence of her father-in-law the Duke of Argyll, she successfully landed a 28lbs salmon (possibly on the above rod) prompting the Duke to comment that “Fishing in Canada obviously required no skill…”
